The walled city
The most surprising caracteristic of Lucca is the undamaged surrounding wall dating back to the XV-XVII century. The wall encloses and protects the city’s historical centre. Another peculiar caracteristic is the presence of many churches, towers, bell towers and Renaissance monumental buildings such as the Cathedral, with exquisite style and architecture. For this reason, Lucca is called the “City of the 100 churches”.

Due to its many historical-monumental buildings, UNESCO is going to include it on its list of world heritage sites.
